EFFECTIVE 6/2/25, and due to the transition of Dispatch to Washington County, residents should now visit the Washington County Sheriff's Office website to report their location for burning yard waste.

There will be *NO* permit sent to you. You are simply reporting your location to Washington County.

REMINDER: Germantown allows a 30-day yard waste burning window for residents that notify the County of their burning location.  All burning regulations are still in effect. Please notify GFD if you feel there are burning concerns in your neighborhood.

 Burning Ordinance Quick Notes

1. No bigger than 5x5x5 in size for brush burning (Permit Required) 

2. 50’ from a structure for yard waste 

3. 25’ from a structure for a recreational burn 

4. Wind velocity must not exceed 12MPH per the National Weather Service 

5. No bigger than 3x3x2 for a recreational fire (fire pit)

6. No permit is needed for a recreational fire (fire pit)

7. Brush / yard waste burning allowed between 08:00 and 20:00 

8. Fire must be attended continually until extinguished 

9. Must have a means of extinguishment 

10. Prohibited Burning: 

A. Garbage, tires

B. Materials emitting toxic fumes or substances, noxious odors or creating health hazards 

C. Flammable liquids or other materials which may create a fire hazard

D. Building Materials, waste materials and rubbish resulting from building construction, demolition, or site clearings

 

The Authority Having Jurisdiction has Authority to Immediately Require a Fire be Discontinued if it is determined to create a Hazardous Condition
