Police Department

Welcome from the Chief

Welcome to the Germantown Police Department’s (GPD's) section of the website! I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit.

Services

The GPD provides police service and office hours 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have 45 employees, including 34 sworn officers. We have a variety of programs to serve the public that we are particularly proud to offer. With total community funding and support, we have two K-9 units. K-9 handler Officer Darren Von Bereghy is partnered with K-9 Hatto. Hatto joined our department in 2017. K-9 handler Officer Justin Pesch is partnered with K-9 partner Arek. Arek joined our department in 2019.

Community Policing

“Community Policing” is not just the newest fad or buzzword for the GPD. We believe in the philosophy of “getting back to basics,” working and networking with the community we police. The dedicated men and women of the GPD have developed and instructed numerous programs for our community such as the Citizen Police Academy, Youth Police Academy, Neighbors Against Crime Night (NAC Night), Identity Theft and Internet Safety seminars. We periodically offer carry concealed weapon training classes.

We have a D.A.R.E. program that is taught by School Resource Officer Toni Olson, Officer Jayna Schmittinger and Detective Sergeant Penny Schmitt to the fifth graders in the Germantown school district. We believe in being involved with other local programs. We have representatives on the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Germantown, Youth Futures, Kiwanis, American Red Cross, Friends for Abused Families, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and many other programs that benefit and operate in this community.
